2018 GENERAL LOCAL ELECTIONS
NOTICE OF NOMINATION

Public Notice is given to the electors of the Village of Port Clements that nominations for the offices of:

MAYOR – 1 to be elected
COUNCILLORS – 4 to be elected

will be received by the Chief Election Officer or a designated person, as follows:

By hand, mail or other delivery service: Village Office of Port Clements, P.O. Box 198, Port Clements, BC V0T 1R0. The deadline to submit by this means is from 9:00 AM, Tuesday, September 4, 2018 to 4:00 PM, Friday, September 14, 2018.Excluding statutory holidays and weekends

By fax (to 250-557-4568) or by email (to cao@portclements.ca): From 9:00 AM, Tuesday, September 4, 2018 to 4:00 PM, Friday, September 14th, 2018. Excluding statutory holidays and weekends. The Originals of faxed or emailed nomination documents must be received by the Chief Election Officer by 4:00 PM on September 21, 2018.

Nomination forms are available at the Village Office of Port Clements during regular office hours 9:30 AM to 1:00 PM, Tuesday – Friday until the close of nominations at 4:00 PM, September 14th, 2018.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR OFFICE:
A person is qualified to be nominated, elected, and to hold office as a member of local government if they meet the following criteria:
• Canadian citizen;
• 18 years of age or older on general voting day October 20, 2018;
• resident of British Columbia for at least 6 months immediately before the day nomination papers are filed;
• a person or the commander of an armed forces unit who has been granted freedom of the municipality, if that person is a Canadian citizen; and
• not disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from being nominated for, being elected to or holding the office, or be otherwise disqualified by law.

CAMPAIGN PERIOD EXPENSE LIMITS
In accordance with the Local Elections Campaign Financing Act, for the 2018 general local election, the following expense limits for candidates during the campaign period apply:
Mayor $10,000.00
Councillor $5,000.00

THIRD PARTY ADVERTISING LIMITS:
In accordance with the Local Elections Campaign Financing Act, for the 2018 general local elections, the following third party advertising limits apply: $750.00
